How to get here
Once you've logged into Vision and are viewing the map, do the following:
- Click the Account Management button (it's the second button from the right in the top menu).
- Scroll down until you find the section titled Organisations I'm linked to, and click on the relevant organisation.
- In the first section titled Organisation details, click on the Manage button to the right.
- Scroll down until you find the section titled Subscribed Layers (for layers you subscribe to) or Our Layers (for your own layers), and click on the relevant layer.

You can change the appearance, display, and external sharing permissions for a Layer from here.
Step 1
Change the settings values as required. See the table below for help on what each setting does.
Step 2
Click Save in the top-right to complete the process. You will then be returned to the Layer Summary page.
What does each Layer setting mean?
Setting | Description |
Load method |
This setting is only available for Private Area Layers. All other Layer types are set to Lazy. If this is set to Complete, then all records in the Layer are displayed when the Layer is turned on. If this is set to Lazy, then only records in the layer that are within the current map view are displayed. As you move around the map, any previously unloaded records will be displayed. |
Max zoom level |
This setting is only available when Load method is set to Lazy. Your zoom level is a value representing how close you are to the surface of the Earth. The higher the number, the closer you are. This setting controls when the Layer is displayed in the Layer Control, and therefore when it can be viewed. If your current zoom level is lower than the value set for Max zoom level, the Layer is automatically turned off and hidden until you zoom in. This is an advanced setting for system optimisation when you have a lot of records within a Layer. If you're unsure, please raise a ticket with us for support. |
Managed through API? |
This setting is only available for Private Layers. If ticked, it indicates that you plan on keeping records within the Layer synchronised with another system. It makes the Layer view-only, regardless of user permissions. This is not required in order to use the API, but the API will overwrite any changes made to records from within Vision. |
Border width |
This setting is only available for Area Layers. Controls the border width for all records in the Layer when displayed on the map. This can be between 1 and 5 inclusive. We recommend a value of 2 or 3 for best display results. |
Border colour |
This setting is only available for Area Layers. Controls the border colour for all records in the Layer when displayed on the map, except in satellite view - see Border colour (satellite mode). We recommend dark or bold colours as the background imagery is typically light. |
Border colour (satellite mode) |
This setting is only available for Area Layers. Controls the border colour for all records in the Layer when displayed on the map in satellite view. We recommend bright or pale colours as the background imagery is quite dark, and that you use a pale/light version of what you set for the Border colour setting for visual association. |
Label colour |
This setting is only available for Area Layers. Controls the font colour for labels in the Layer. We recommend using the same value as Border colour for visual association. |
Label background colour |
This setting is only available for Area Layers. Controls the background colour for labels in the Layer. We recommend a colour that contrasts well with the value for Label colour. |
Label font size |
This setting is only available for Area Layers. Controls the font size for labels in the Layer, in pixels. We recommend a value of 12 or higher, however, if there is a large number of records in the Layer, you may want a lower value to reduce clutter. |
Icon colour |
This setting is only available for Location Layers. Controls the colour of the marker placed on the map for each record in the Layer. This colour can be overridden by a classification applied to a record. |
Icon text |
This setting is only available for Location Layers. Optional. Lets you define a single character to place in the centre of the marker for each record in the layer. This can be overridden by a classification applied to a record. |
Icon text colour |
This setting is only available for Location Layers. Controls the colour used for the Icon text value applied to the marker for each record in the layer. This colour can be overridden by a classification applied to a record. |
Suppress Classifications? |
