Updates 19 for Vision launches alongside Update 18 on Monday, November 18th, 2024. Services will be down for approximately 30 minutes while we complete the update, and of course, we'll notify all users when services are back online.
The maintenance window start times are as follows:
Time Zone | Start |
LONDON (GMT) | 8 pm, 18th November 2024 |
NEW YORK (EST) | 3 pm, 18th November 2024 |
LOS ANGELES (PDT) | 12 pm, 18th November 2024 |
SYDNEY (AEST) |
7 am, 19th November 2024 |
Summary
It's not often that two updates launch at the same time! So what's happened?
Well, Update 18's primary focus was to integrate importing into Vision. This required extensive testing by the team while our developers started working on this update. By the time import testing was finished, so was Update 19. We brought them together rather than having two downtime periods to reduce service interruption.
Update 19 brings another long-awaited feature to Vision: drive times and distances. We collectively term these zones, and this new feature also reimagines how you generate radial areas moving forward. It's a potent tool for building territories, analysing an area, and calculating the reachable range from your existing and potential sites. We're sure you'll love using it.
We've also improved the performance of our already rapid location clustering and enhanced the user experience further with new, improved icons.
Let's dive into the details!
Drive time, Drive Distance, and Radial Zones
This feature is available to Small Teams (previously Feature Pack 2) and above.
This is Vision's most exciting update for some time. You can now generate areas from a starting location using drive time and drive distance. Creating radial areas now also fits into this, with a reimagined and better experience. And like everything in Vision, it's super easy to use.
If, like us, you want to dive straight in and get creating zones, you can read and follow our guides here:
- Creating drive time zones
- Creating drive distance zones
- Creating radial zones
Create up to 5 zones at once
Our zones feature allows you to generate up to 5 zones from a single site in one go! This is especially useful for looking at delivery areas and performing customer analysis.
When you do, you can choose to create each zone as overlapping (where each zone is a complete area from the starting location).
...or exclusive (where each zone is an extension of the zone before it).
Specifying your own speed for drive time zones
Not all vehicles are equal! You might need to check the reachable range by large lorry, or even a bicycle!
That's why we've implemented the ability to specify your 'vehicle' speed. You can optionally limit the speed between 1 and 155 MPH (or 1 and 250 KPH). It's worth pointing out that road speed limits are still obeyed!
If you don't specify a speed (the default option), average road speeds are used, reflecting real-world range rather than maximum range, which is almost never achievable.
Improved markers, clustering, and legend
With Update 19, we've updated the markers we use for locations and clusters.
Individual location markers are much clearer, and you can now hover over them to get the location's name. Cluster markers have been tweaked slightly, and multi-location markers (where multiple data points sit at the same location), are much easier to distinguish from clusters and individual location markers.
We've also improved the clustering performance slightly - even though it was already rapid!
